It’s been over a decade since we last saw famed archaeologist Indiana Jones in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but it seems like Harrison Ford’s famous character is going out for one more ride!
The film series has been thrilling audiences since its debut in 1981, and now, it looks like an untitled fifth film in the series will begin production this summer!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harrison Ford has stated that filming for the latest film in the series will begin this summer, as soon as April!
The previous film, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, introduced Indy’s son Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf) as a potential successor to the famed archaeologist. Unfortunately, the film was poorly received, so LaBeouf’s character was shelved.
Series creator George Lucas (better known for the Star Wars saga) said in a 2008 interview with Fox News that only Harrison Ford could play Indiana Jones, stating “Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones, no Harrison means no Indy”.
But will this be the final Indiana Jones film? Ford turns 78 this year, and while he has expressed interest in returning to the classic character and shows no signs of slowing down or retiring, he is also famously difficult to predict. He openly wished for Han Solo’s death in The Empire Strikes Back, finally receiving a dramatic death scene in The Force Awakens, yet he made a surprise return appearance in The Rise of Skywalker as a force vision received by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Will this film mark Indy’s death or retirement? Will we watch that famous red travel line sail off into the sunset? Or will the famously stubborn Ford wow us with an entire new trilogy of Indiana Jones films?
All we know is, never count Harrison Ford out because the man does NOT disappoint!
