Way back in 2001, most folks didn’t think twice about the Disney Christmas Special being filmed in advance. Well, may you did, but I don’t think I did.
So as I entered the Magic Kingdom on December 2, 2001, Cast Members had roped off an area in front of the castle. Most people just walked on by. I decided to stand on the sidewalk and see what was going on. Lo and behold, WDW was filming part of the Christmas Special.
Here is the one I took of Mary Lou Retton, first US woman to win Gold in an Olympic Game (1984), with Goofy and Minnie.

Most people still think the Christmas Special is live including my older sister even though I have shown her photos of the taping of the parade when we were there back in 2010. That year Ryan Seacrest was the host and my husband and I watched the taping from the train station. it offered a great view. Mirah Carey was at the castle singing her famous Christmas song.
