July 2009

Magic Kingdom

Swearing In Ceremony: In a stirring celebration of citizenship, more than 1,000 immigrants will gather on Main Street, U.S.A. July 3 to be "sworn in" as American citizens. And as the country kicks off Independence Day weekend, these brand-new Americans will attend a premiere performance of the newest Walt Disney World attraction, a re-imagined Hall of Presidents, now featuring a lifelike Audio-Animatronics figure of President Barack Obama.

Epcot

Sounds Like Summer concert series, which features tribute bands at America Gardens Theatre in Epcot, has revised its schedule somewhat. Concerts, which are included in regular Epcot admission, are nightly at 5:45, 7 and 8:15 p.m. (except July 4, when show times will be 5:15, 6:30, 7:45 and 9 p.m.). The current lineup (subject to change):

June 29-July 8: Slippery When Wet -- A Tribute to Bon Jovi
July 9-17: 52nd Street - A Tribute to Billy Joel
July 18-26: The Sounds of the Supremes-- A Tribute to the Supremes
July 27-August 2: 2U --A Tribute to U2
August 3-9: Petty Theft -- A Tribute to Tom Petty

Disney's Wide World of Sports

The inaugural ESPN RISE Games presented by Target will take place July 19-25, 2009, at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The week-long event will be anchored by three invitation-only, elite high school sporting events: the AAU 17-under Boys Basketball Super Showcase, the Under Armour High School Softball All-American game, and a new high school football event -- Champion Gridiron Kings -- a 7-on-7 competition featuring skill position players. The event will also feature competitive youth sports: baseball (10U, 11U and 12U), basketball (10U, 12U and 14U), field hockey (14U, U16 and 19U) and track & field (14-18). The ESPN RISE Games are expected to welcome 4,000 student athletes. Team enrollment for the event's open basketball, baseball, field hockey and track and field programs is available. Additional information on the ESPN RISE Games presented by Target is available at www.espnrisegames.com.

"Disney's Celebrate America! - A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky" Special Fourth of July fireworks begin July 3 at Magic Kingdom the night before the big celebration. “Disney's Celebrate America! - A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” will begin at 9 p.m. on July 3. That same park will feature a performance of the SpectroMagic nighttime parade at 10:30 p.m. In the meantime, Disney's Hollywood Studios guests will be treated to a 9 p.m. performance of Fantasmic! At Epcot, a holiday-inspired IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth bursts above World Showcase Lagoon at 10 p.m.

Downtown Disney

Precious Moments Doll Maker Linda Rick will be at the Uptown Jewelers, Main Street U.S.A., July 3-5, 2009. Rick will make a special appearance and sign of some of the latest releases from Precious Moments, including their Americana themed dolls from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day.

Walt Disney World Passholders can sign up for one of several "Vacation as You Wish" sales presentations that include giveaways, character greetings, and a tour of Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort. From July 10-12, Disney Vacation Club will be giving these special sales presentations at these times: July 10 - 7 p.m.; July 11 - 3 p.m.; July 12 - 3 p.m. Show will last approximately two hours. Space is limited, so reserve your spot today on the Walt Disney World Annual Passholder website.

Epcot

Disney's Hollywood Studios

Night of Joy, a contemporary Christian music festival, will be held on September 11-12, 2009, from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. each night. Tickets went on sale March 1. The line-up (subject to change) is:

September 11: P.O.D., newsboys, Kutless, Tomlin, NEEDTOBREATHE, Leeland and Superchick.
September 12: Skillet, MercyMe, Jars of Clay, Flyleaf, Family Force 5, Grits and Mandisa.

One-night tickets purchased in advance (up to the day prior to the event) are $49.95 plus tax (on event day, if available, tickets are $54.95). Two-night tickets are $84.95 plus tax. Purchase tickets by phone at 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639). Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets (special group rates available) by phone by calling 877-NITE-JOY (877-648-3569).

Animal Kingdom Villas - Phase 1 of Kidani Village opens May 1, 2009. Phase 2, which includes Pembe Savanna, opens September 2009.

Disney Vacation Club's S.S. Member Cruise 2009 will take place September 13 - 17, 2009. The cruise will have two stops at Castaway Cay, as well as special onboard guests and events. Disney's Wide World of Sports

September 18-20 -- Athletes for a Cure Triathlon -- A percentage of the registration fee for the Second Annual Athletes goes to Athletes for a Cure - Prostate Cancer Foundation. This international distance triathlon will feature a 1.5 K swim (.9 miles) a 40 K bike (24.8 miles) and a 10 K run. (6.2 miles). The event will be held at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

September 26 -- Expedition Everest™ Challenge -- Race through the dark, exotic terrain of Disney's Animal Kingdom on a thrilling 5K trek in the shadows of the Forbidden Mountain. There are plenty of clues, but only a few will escape the Yeti, known as the abominable snowman! The team needs to earn all of the stamps in their Expedition Passport to conquer the challenge. Then the real excitement begins as the teams celebrate their finish at an exclusive after-hours party at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

D23 Expo - Tickets are now onsale. Disney fans will be given unprecedented access to never-before-seen movies, TV shows, park experiences, collectibles and more from Sept. 10 to Sept. 13 at the Anaheim Convention Center when Disney and D23: The Official Community for Disney Fans present the first-ever D23 EXPO.

Tickets to the D23 EXPO are onsale at http://www.D23Expo.com. Admission includes access to all experiences and entertainment at the D23 EXPO and can be purchased for single days or for the full four days of festivities. Admission is discounted for members of D23.

The D23 EXPO will be home to the 2009 Disney Legends Awards – a 22-year tradition that pays tribute to the talented men and women who have made indelible contributions to Disney entertainment. November 12-15 -- The Children's Miracle Network Classic The Children's Miracle Network Classic returns to Disney's Palm and Magnolia Golf Courses 2009, for its 39th consecutive year of PGA TOUR play at the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort.

November 26, 27 & 29 -- 2009 Old Spice Classic -- ESPN brings back the fourth edition of the Old Spice Classic to Disney's Wide World of Sports® Complex November 26, 27 & 29, 2009. This Division I Men's Holiday Tournament will feature eight teams and 12 exhilarating games played over Thanksgiving weekend. The 2009 tournament will feature, Alabama, Baylor, Creighton, Iona, Marquette, Michigan, Xavier, and Florida State.

Downtown Disney

The 34th annual Festival of the Masters presented by Sharpie will run this coming November 13-15 at Downtown Disney. More than 150 award-winning artists who work in media from clay to wood, metal and mixed media to oils and watercolors -- jewelry artists, painters, photographers, sculptors and more -- will show off their works. The festival includes live music and entertainment, chalk art sidewalk displays and family activities. Concurrently, House of Blues at Downtown Disney will present its 11th annual Folk Art Festival – Where Art Meets the Soul. Festival hours are 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are complimentary.

Holidays Around the World at Epcot: November 27-December 30

Disney's Wide World of Sports

The 53rd Pop Warner Super Bowl will be held at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex this December, marking the 15th consecutive year the football fest involving more than 60 teams is being held at Walt Disney World Resort. Teams are competing at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in four divisions based on size and age -- Jr. Pee Wee (ages 8-10), Pee Wee (9-11 yrs.), Jr. Midget (10-12 yrs.) and Midget (11-14 yrs.). World Chapter NFFC/Disneyana Fan Club (NFFC) (www.nffc.org) will host a very special Disneyana Show and Sale on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the Regal Sun Resort (formerly the Grosvenor Resort), located in the Downtown Disney area. The NFFC is an international club for Disney fans and enthusiasts with 30 chapters worldwide. It regularly hold its conventions at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, and Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. On December 12, Disney memorabilia collectors and dealers will have their vintage and contemporary Disneyana on sale. Several authors of Disney-related books will be on hand, as well as several podcasters and Disney-related businesses promoting their services. The Show and Sale will open to the public at 10 a.m. and will conclude at 4 p.m. There is free parking. REGULAR ADMISSION AT THE DOOR IS $5.00 FOR SHOW AND SALE.
