When we took our first Brightline train from the Orlando Airport, we’ll admit we were pretty impressed by just how nice our journey was (and how it wasn’t nearly as stressful as flying). We honestly thought the train would be pretty popular, but it might not be as popular as we thought.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Brightline could potentially be facing bankruptcy soon, and its creditors have hired restructuring advisors after issuing a warning about its ability to continue operating.
Brightline has been struggling to reduce its $5.5 billion debt, and the company is currently seeking outside capital. As these discussions have continued, bankruptcy grows ever closer for the train company that owns or controls 235 miles of rail tracks in the state of Florida.

According to CBS News, an outside auditor has raised “substantial doubt” about the company continuing to operate, stating that Brightline “does not currently have the liquid funds necessary to service its debt and meet such other obligations as they become due.”
Brightline was initially supposed to pay $117 million in interest on its debt in 2026, but the payment was deferred while the company seeks to raise funds by June 15th.

However, Brightline is currently still operating and plans to extend its service from Orlando to Tampa. Brightline also recently launched a new program on Amadeus, a travel booking site, that allows you to book train trips along with air travel. In 2025, Brightline partnered with JetBlue to allow passengers to do that with JetBlue flights.

In a statement, Brightline wrote: “Brightline continues to demonstrate strong momentum, with first quarter 2026 marking the highest ridership and revenue performance in our history, with 20% year over year growth in March.” The company hopes to stay “engaged with our partners on various options to enhance our balance sheet and position our company for long-term success.”
We’ll keep an eye out for more updates, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
