Big news out of Disneyland Resort today!

Just like Disney World, Disneyland Resort is under tons of construction right now, in the process of expanding as part of the DisneylandForward project. Some of these expansions cause closures of other areas of the park, and now, we’ve gotten an update on one of them. If you were hoping to have more time to ride Monsters Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!, you’re in luck — the ride will now remain open through 2026 and close in 2027!
According to the Orange County Register, in a recent press release, Disney officials released the news that, instead of closing in early 2026 as originally planned, Monsters Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will now close in 2027.

This area of the park is set to become a new Avatar land, inspired by the second film, Avatar: The Way of Water, and third film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, as well as additional films upcoming in the franchise. Fortunately, the delay of the closure of this ride will NOT be affecting the opening timeline for this new land, which is expected to be in 2028 or 2029.

With so much construction already going on at Disneyland Resort, specifically Disney California Adventure, it has been reported that “Disneyland’s project management team found a way to sequence construction of the two new Avengers Campus attractions, the new Coco boat ride and the Avatar themed land without having to close the Monsters Inc. ride when initially planned or impacting the timeline for the new attractions.” This means that fewer attractions will be closed through the duration of this big change, which is quite the win for guests visiting during this time.
