Disney Files NEW Permit for Massive Park Expansion

Massive expansion plans are already underway at Disneyland Resort, and this latest update proves things are moving right along.

So far, Disney has announced an  Avatar Land, an Avengers Campus expansion, and the addition of a new Coco ride, all in Disney California Adventure. A new permit has been filed for this project and we’re sharing everything we know.

Disneyland has filed a new permit to install a construction fence where the future parking structure and transportation hub will be located on the east side of the resort. In case you missed it, Disney previously announced a brand-new parking structure and transportation hub over on the east side of the resort, right where the Manchester Cast Member lot currently sits. This new setup will provide approximately 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle drop-off and pickup zones, dedicated rideshare spots, a full security screening area, and improved traffic access from Disney Way.

The permit lists the “East Esplanade” as the site where the work is happening, and also advises us that the work is to install a 15-foot-long by 8-foot-high chain link fence and a 128-foot-long by 8-foot-high wooden fence in the area.

While it’s unlikely that this fence will remain after construction is completed, it’s a step in the right direction when it comes to this park expansion.

In 2024, DisneylandForward was approved. Disneyland’s decade-plus-long expansion plan allows the resort to make way for tons of new entertainment, attractions, dining locations, shopping options, and lodging experiences. We already know about several projects in the works, but there are so many more on the horizon that have yet to be announced.

  1. Wow – I have a thought on this expansion.

Why is Disney,as a whole, doing these mega expansions rather than a new attraction/land,one at a time? Personally, I am surprised that anyone wants to visit during this chaos, especially at WDW. I am trying to wrap my head around the urgency. I’m amazed that people will still pay huge amounts of money to stay on property and/or visit the parks only to find rides shut down or not functioning. How much “bother” and “imposition” will visitors actually tolerate?
