Universal Rumored To Be in Discussions With Elon Musk’s Boring Co. for a New Project in Orlando

It’s a big year for Universal Orlando. The resort’s new theme park, Epic Universe, just opened, and many are already wondering if Universal is considering plans to expand the park.

In the meantime, though, Universal might also be making other plans…and those plans would involve making transportation to and from the resort a lot easier. According to The Orlando Business Journal, Universal could be working with Elon Musk’s Boring Co. to change transportation along International Drive with a new tunnel project.

Before we continue, note that this is only a rumor regarding what Orlando business leaders have been discussing. Universal and The Boring Co. may be working on a tunnel-like project in Central Florida, per The Orlando Business Journal.  The Boring  Co. constructs transportation tunnels and  is the company behind the “Vegas Loop,” an underground public transit system that uses Tesla vehicles to connect people to different parts of Las Vegas.

Maria Triscari, president and CEO of The International Drive Resort Area Chamber of Commerce, has said she has heard the rumors suggesting that a Vegas Loop-like transit system could be coming to Orlando. She told The Orlando Business Journal, “It’s definitely been in the talks because we want to be a cut above the rest, and that’s the type of thing that needs to happen, and that’s the kind of people we have on the I-Drive Corridor, the visionaries. They are just so forward thinking.”

The rumors suggest that a tunnel would be built to connect the Orange County Convention Center to Universal’s Epic Universe. However, neither Universal nor Boring Co. representatives have commented on the validity of these rumors.
