CONFIRMED: Disney Is Making a 'Coco' Sequel!

Today, the Walt Disney Company had its 2025 Annual Shareholder Meeting, and during it, some very exciting movie news was announced. A sequel to Coco is in the works!

UPDATE: Disney has since removed 2029 from its posts about the sequel. We’ll keep you updated when Disney reveals a timeline for this film.

While we did not get too many details, it was confirmed that Coco 2 is officially happening! The unfortunate news is that it won’t be released until 2029. For context, the first film came out in 2017, meaning there will be about a 12-year gap between the films.

The film is set to reunite the team that worked on the first film, including director Lee Unkrich, co-director Adrian Molina, and producer Mark Nielsen.

During the meeting, CEO Bob Iger shared that “while the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure.” He also went on to say that they can’t wait to share more information soon!

We, along with Quincy (if you did not know, Coco is one of her all-time favorite movies), are super pumped about this news; we just wish we did not have to wait so long!

We wonder if this gives us some context on when we can expect the new Coco boat ride, which was announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event back in August 2024. It was revealed that this new attraction would be built in Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort.
