When planning a trip to Disney World, especially in the fall, it’s important to consider weather.

While we always talk about the unpredictable weather of Central Florida and the mostly harmless rain showers that tend to pop up in the afternoons, the late summer and early fall can bring some serious bad weather to Disney World. Yep, that’s hurricane season. If you’re currently planning to head to the parks this fall, there are a few key dates that you should be aware of.
Eric Burris, meteorologist for WESH News 2, released a list of “hot spots” and “hot dates” for 2024’s hurricane season. He prefaced his list with the fact that the and the meteorology team at WESH accurately predicted where and when every named storm in 2023 made landfall. So, he brought the receipts. We trust him.

Here are the dates and places you should be aware of when prepping for 2024’s hurricane season and your Florida vacations.

Firstly, Burris highlighted the areas that are especially prone to hurricanes. This year, the Gulf of Mexico coastline (Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida) has a higher-than-usual risk. Further, the entire coast of south Florida has an increased risk. Burris highlighted the following dates as “hot dates”:

- May 19th through 24th
- July 5th through 10th
- August 21st through 27th
Another area that could be severely impacted by storm systems this year is the Carolinas coastline. In October 2023, we saw storm systems hit both the Gulf coastline and then make their way through Florida and up to the Carolinas. The dates that the Carolinas could be affected include:

- June 20th through 25th
- August 6th through 12th
- September 22nd through 29th
Finally, there are instances where the Gulf coastline could be affected. These storms will likely only hit the Gulf coast of Florida without breezing through Florida. The key dates here are:

- June 3rd through 7th
- August 6th through 12th
- September 22nd through 29th
WESH also showed the average number of storms per year as well as their own predictions. For 2024, WESH is predicting 8-10 hurricanes as well as 3-5 major hurricanes.
