The Disney theme parks around the world have been on a wild ride since the pandemic began over two years ago.

We’ve seen closures, reopenings, and even re-closures at the international theme parks, and things aren’t quite back to normal yet in many places. However, today we got some big reopening news from Shanghai Disney Resort!
It was announced today that parts of Shanghai Disney Resort will be reopening soon. Wishing Star Park, the World of Disney Store, and Blue Sky Boulevard all resumed operations on June 10th, 2022. Now it’s been announced that Disneytown, the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, and the Disneytown Parking Lot will all reopen on June 16th.

Each of these places is operating with a limited capacity and shortened hours of operation. At this time, Shanghai Disneyland and Toy Story Hotel will remain closed until further notice. Also on June 10th, the Disney Car and Coach Park reopened with some special discounted rates (prior to the reopening of Shanghai Disneyland).

Guests visiting Disneytown will be able to experience many of the shopping, dining, and recreational experiences with reduced hours. Participating restaurants will offer adjusted menus featuring “grab-and-go” items. Guests can also make reservations at Shanghai Disneyland Hotel starting today and can expect all room types and dining experiences to be available, but some hotel facilities will remain closed. If you’re a Shanghai Disneyland annual pass holder, you can also receive a discounted hotel rate if you stay from June 16th to July 13th.

Keep in mind that during this partial reopening, there are still many health and safety measures in place. Mask-wearing and temperature checks are still required and the Disney website states that “All guests, regardless of age, will be required to present a green Shanghai Health QR Code (“Suishenma”) and a negative Nucleic Acid Test (NAT) taken within 72 hours (from sampling time) prior to entering Shanghai Disney Resort.” To see the full details on the health and safety measures, check the Shanghai Disney Resort website.

Shanghai Disney Resort first closed indefinitely back in March due to the pandemic. Hong Kong Disneyland was also closed for a period of time earlier this year, but reopened back in April.

At this time, both domestic Disney resorts remain open. Disney World reopened in July 2020 and has continued to operate since, while Disneyland Resort took a little longer and reopened in April 2021. Neither of these two resorts is fully back to pre-pandemic operations, but we’re getting close, with only a few restaurants and experiences still closed.
