NEWS: Disney Working on a Live-Action 'Zorro' Series Starring Wilmer Valderrama

Disney has released a lot of new series and movies over the past year on their exclusive streaming platform, Disney+.

Marvel fans have been able to catch up with some of their favorite characters in series like WandaVision, Hawkeye, and Loki, plus Star Wars fans are continuing to get their fix with new shows like The Book of Boba Fett debuting soon. But, now there’s a new project in development that will feature a classic storybook character like never before.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is currently working on a new live-action TV series based on Zorro. And, it is set to star Wilmer Valderrama (who you might recognize as the voice of Agustin in Disney’s Encanto) as the masked vigilante.

The series won’t simply be a remake of what we’ve seen before though. Ayo Davis (President of Disney Branded TV) revealed that the Disney classic will be reimagined as a “compelling period piece, set in Pueblo de Los Angeles, but told in a very modern telenovela style.”

A streaming platform for the new show has not yet been selected, however, we do know that Gary Marsh (the former Creative Chief at Disney Branded TV) and John Gertz (the President and CEO of Zorro Productions) are working together as executive producers.
