California received its first shipment of doses of the Pfizer vaccine earlier this week. Governor Gavin Newsom shared that the state expects 393,000 more doses in the upcoming week.

Vaccine distribution has begun while certain parts of the state continue to see case rates significantly increase. California has seen record-setting daily case numbers a handful of times since the start of December. Orange County and the City of Anaheim reached a milestone number of daily cases, and California State reached the highest number of new cases that an individual state has seen in one day.
Today, another daily high has been reached in Orange County. The county has once again recorded a record-setting number of positive daily cases, as reported by the Orange County Register.

Orange County reported a high of 3,445 new cases on December 19th. Additionally, ICU capacities continue to diminish. The region of Southern California has been under a mandatory stay-at-home order since December 6th, and we’ve observed case rates continue to increase since then.

It was shared earlier this week that Orange County could remain under this stay-at-home order for another month, according to Orange County Health Officer Dr. Clayton Chau. The end of the stay-at-home order is dependent on ICU capacities, which Dr. Chau does not anticipate to improve by December 28th, the intended end date for the order. We’ll continue to provide more updates about the vaccine, as well as the stay-at-home order.
