Earlier today, the reopening guidelines were announced for California theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios.

The guidelines state that theme parks may only reopen when the county they are located in reaches the “minimal tier” of new coronavirus cases. This means that there can only be 1 new case of the virus per 100,000 people.
Furthermore, if the county reaches these guidelines, theme parks and restaurants may only open at 25% capacity, and a reservation system must be put in place. Erin Guerrero, the Executive Director of the California Attractions and Parks Association, made a statement regarding these new guidelines.

Erin adds that the “guidelines issued by the Newsom Administration will keep theme parks shuttered for the foreseeable future.” She later calls it a “Keep Theme Parks Closed Indefinitely Plan.”
The statement also comments on prolonging “unemployment for tens of thousands of people.” This comes after the massive layoffs throughout the Disney company. She explains that this will create “bankruptcy for families and small business owners adjacent to the parks, and contributes insolvency for local governments whose budgets rely on parks as an anchor economic driver.”

Not only has CAPA’s executive director made a statement, but we have seen them from Disneyland’s President and Anaheim’s Mayor. We will continue to report on the latest news regarding California’s theme park guidelines and Disneyland’s reopening.
