Sad news, spooky Disney fans, one of the most nostalgic Disney+ shows has officially been axed.

Disney+ has been making some changes to its streaming library, and some of those updates have been great recent additions to what’s available to view. We’ve recently seen the likes of major blockbuster films straight from theaters enter the Disney+ library, along with a whole host of original shows and even revolving perks they’re constantly updating. But, if you’re anything like me and grew attached to a certain show inspired by a popular line of children’s books, you might be turning elsewhere to find it in the future.

It wasn’t too long ago that Disney+ released a whole lineup of shows they were excited to share would be coming to the streaming service. One of those shows in particular I was most excited to see (and I thought everyone else was too) was Goosebumps.

In its first teasers, Disney shared the updated ways it would continue to bring the popular children’s books by R.L. Stine to life with a modern twist. But, selfishly, I was excited to see familiar characters like Slappy the ventriloquy doll, and a familiar actor like Justin Long join in the eerie fun of the series while introducing us to a whole new set of twists and turns that could happen within a sleepy town and its unsuspecting citizens.

However, Disney took a break between Goosebumps‘ first season, which was released in October 2023, to release the second in January 2025. According to an article by Variety, it now appears the horror anthology built for kids may be looking for a new home under a different creative direction.

This wouldn’t be the book series’ first go at a TV series. In the 1990s, it was a popular episodic show that aired during prime viewing times for kids, and most recently was also adapted into two movies starring the notable comedic actor, Jack Black.

While it seems that Goosebumps has closed its chapter to call Disney+ home for now, it’s not without saying that the series could find a second life with another media company. Series producers from Sony Pictures Television plan to shop the show to other outlets, so there could still be hope yet to see future iterations of the Goosebumps stories adapted for television.

For now, though, you can still stream Goosebumps’ current two seasons on Disney+.
