NEW Report Says You’re Spending MORE at Epic Universe

A new theme park recently opened in Orlando, Florida, reigniting a conversation about the “competition” between Disney and Universal and sparking debates over the best new attraction in Central Florida. It’s safe to say that Epic Universe opened to great success, but what do Comcast executives have to say about the big launch?

Epic Universe

July 31st marked the first Comcast quarterly earnings report since its new Universal theme park, Epic Universe, opened to the public. Comcast executives commented on the success of Epic Universe and revealed some interesting information about consumer spending. Comcast exceeded Wall Street estimates for second-quarter earnings and revenue.

Part of the new Q2 Comcast earnings report included data on the Content and Experiences portion of the business, a.k.a. the theme parks, media, and studios. Comcast reported a “Successful opening of Epic Universe in Orlando on May 22nd,” which resulted in added revenue. The revenue growth was attributed to Universal’s domestic theme parks, including Epic Universe, and international theme parks.

Comcast saw a 5.6% increase compared to 2Q 2024, and the overall 2Q 2025 theme parks revenue is up 18.9%.

During the earnings call, Comcast executives also commented on consumer spending following the Epic Universe grand opening. Comcast president Mike Cavanagh said, “We’re pleased with the early results as Epic is already driving higher per cap spending and attendance across the entirety of Universal Orlando Resort.” Visitors seem to be willing to spend more across the board, and Universal Orlando Resort is “trending in line with expectations.”

So, what does that mean for us, the visitors? The success of Epic Universe proves fans are excited to show off their love of the new park. We’ve seen Nintendo fans sporting new novelty hats and headbands, Harry Potter fans trying out the new wands in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic, and even encountered fans (like our reporter/diehard Dracula lover, Quincy) splurging on a Monster Makeup Experience.

Will this trend continue as we head into the fall season? Universal has a busy Halloween season coming up with the return of its mega-popular Halloween Horror Nights event starting in August, followed by the holiday season kickoff in November. That said, we’ll have to wait for the future earnings report data to see if per cap spending and attendance continue to trend upward.

Cavanagh ended the earnings call by stating, “NBC is set up to be well positioned for growth,” so between the film studios and theme parks, it seems like the company is prepared for more wins as 2025 comes to a close.

Universal is expanding!

In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Universal news, so stay tuned for more.
