NEWS: Orlando Airport Announces $72 Million Bathroom Upgrade Project

MCO is about to get some major updates!

Orlando International Airport

The Orlando International Airport is the closest airport to Disney World, so it’s a frequent hot spot of ours. While the carpet is iconic, it’s safe to say certain areas of the airport are due for an upgrade. One area they’re working on? The bathrooms — for a cool $72 million!

The Orlando International Airport is beginning its $71.9 million upgrades! The airport is working in phases on its multimillion-dollar project of terminals A and B’s bathrooms.

According to the Orlando Business Journal, there are 61 existing bathrooms being renovated and 12 being added during the renovations. These renovations are beginning because the current facilities are “nearing the end of their life,” and future growth of the airport will require more bathrooms to accommodate new passenger counts, according to Robert Furr, the vice president of engineering and architecture for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

The budget will also include upgrades to service animal relief areas and to companion restrooms. The restroom and relief area upgrades are expected to be completed in 2027. The restrooms aren’t the only upgrades happening at MCO, though!

MCO previously announced major upgrades to its food and shopping offerings! During Phase 1 of these additions, MCO has shared that “more than 40 retail and restaurant options” will be added. The new spots will highlight Florida restaurants like Stasio’s, Smoke & Donuts, Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream, SoDough Detroit Pizza, Milkhouse, Jam-Eng, 4Rivers, and The House on Lang.

Work for Phase 1 is expected to begin mid-2025, converting over 77,000 square feet of space in and around Terminal A and B. The entire project will take place over the course of 3 phases over the next few years.
