Recently, we had the chance to attend a friends and family preview event at Universal’s Epic Universe. Despite all of our preparation, there were still several parts of the park that surprised us!

One of the park’s most anticipated lands (portals in Epic parlance) is Dark Universe, which is themed to Universal’s Monsters and classics of the horror genre. Unsurprisingly, the land’s headline attraction — Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment — features appearances from a litany of Universal Monsters in several forms, including highly advanced animatronics. During the ride, we encountered several creatures we expected, like Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf-Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. However, one monster appeared that we were NEVER expecting to see.
*WARNING: There are SPOILERS ahead for Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment. If you don’t want to know anything about Epic Universe’s E-Ticket and the surprise character featured within, STOP reading NOW!*
During a portion of Monsters Unchained, you’re vehicle will abruptly stop in front of Frankenstein’s monster being bitten before transitioning to a scene with the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

However, in the midst of this transition, three monster faces will flash, including Jack the Clown. That’s right — Jack the Clown — one of the most iconic original characters from Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights mythology!
Jack the Clown made his debut in 2000 as the icon of the tenth Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Orlando. The character was notable for being the first original Universal character created specifically for the event. The character, a murderous clown, was an immediate hit with guests thanks to his acerbic personality and somewhat comedic presentation, which balanced the horrific nature of the character.

After the 9/11 attacks led to 2001’s Halloween Horror Nights XI needing to be rethemed quickly, Jack was brought back, and his mythology was further built out with the introduction of his brother Eddie. In the years since, Jack has returned to Halloween Horror Nights several times, appearing in houses or other capacities or cameos in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2020, 2021, and 2023.
In addition to Orlando, Jack also appeared at Universal Hollywood’s Terror Tram: Horror Comes Home in 2007, Universal Singapore’s Horror Nights events in 2014 and 2016, and Universal Studios Beijing’s Scares event in 2024.

Epic Universe’s Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment — one of the new park’s most anticipated new E-Ticket attractions — features a surprise appearance from one of Universal’s most iconic original Halloween Horror Nights characters. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Epic Universe!
