Disneyland will make a Lightning Lane change starting TOMORROW!

Disneyland’s Lighting Lane Premier Pass system is undergoing a major change, and this is one we think could be for the better. If you’ve experienced frustration with trying to book reservations for rides and attractions under a short lead window before your visit, this new change might be a very welcomed one!
Starting on Tuesday, February 25th, Disney has announced that the purchase window for Lightning Lane Premier Pass at Disneyland will be extended to up to 7 days in advance of a park visit. This will align with the current 7-day window offered to those purchasing the same service at Disney World in Orlando.

If you’re visiting Disneyland with a hotel and ticket package, you’ll be given the option to purchase Lightning Lane Premier Pass when you receive your park tickets 3 days in advance of your arrival. This offering is a separate cost to your package and is paid per person per day of each use and is subject to availability.

This is an interesting change to Disneyland’s Lightning Lane offerings and will make for a more aligned process if both Disney destinations in California and Florida are on the same time windows. We’ve seen this most recently happen with Disney World shortening their advance dining reservation window from 180 days to just 60 days — the same as Disneyland had offered previously to its visitors.

Interestingly, it wasn’t too long ago that Disney World also made changes to advance purchase windows for Lightning Lane purchases between Disney World hotel and day visitors. Earlier in the year, we did hear Disney explain during a quarterly call with shareholders that Lightning Lane pass purchases would be a watched item over its rollout and changes would begin to happen once the new year came around. Now, it seems that as people are buying, using, and learning the Lightning Lane system demand for the service is increasing and this may be Disney’s attempt to continue to track user patterns.

In fact, we’ve actually seen Lightning Lane Premier Pass at Disney World sell out multiple times since the purchase window was extended for those visiting.
Hopefully, this cuts down on future confusion for the Disney parks and will allow users more opportunity to purchase and book Lighting Lane reservations with more availability than before.
