Since its opening in 2016, the historical tourist attraction Kynren has been one of the most popular themed experiences in the United Kingdom. Now, the team behind it is planning to add a full “daytime historical theme park” called Kynren: The Storied Lands in the summer of 2026.

Kynren, as it exists now, is a 90-minute performance that “depicts vital moments in British history and myth spanning 2000 years” including the Roman conquest of Britain, King Arthur’s search for the Holy Grail, and Winston Churchill’s “Finest Hour” speech during WW2. However, if all goes according to plan, things are going to be much bigger come next summer.
The new expansion attraction, Kynren – The Storied Lands, will be set within the wider Kynren attraction in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. According to the BBC, it will “use live-action shows to educate visitors about Britain’s history and myths.”
Initially, these five shows will feature themes including “Neolithic Britain, Viking battles, and the gas-lit streets of Victorian England.” There will also be a water-based stunt show based on the Lambton Worm myth and an experience centered around the relationship between birds and humans, set on a stage inspired by a bird’s nest.

Kynren’s CEO Anna Warnecke said of the potential expansion. “For the past decade, we have poured passion and expertise into delivering Kynren – An Epic Tale of England, and now we are bringing that same level of scale, innovation, and magic into this new daytime attraction. You won’t just witness history – you’ll live it, feel it, and be moved by it.”
Amanda Hopgood, a member of the Durham County Council, also spoke highly of the project and its potential effect on the area, saying”As Durham County establishes itself as one of the great UK visitor destinations, this extravaganza will sit at the heart of the county’s offering”

Pending final approvals, the “time-traveling theme park” Kynren: The Storied Lands is set to open in Bishop Auckland, County Durham in the summer of 2026. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on upcoming international theme parks.
