Apparently I’m Spending $23 on This on Amazon, Because I Don’t Have a Choice

We talk all the time about the essentials needed for a Disney trip, and there are often a lot more than you may be expecting.

Magic Kingdom

There are your basic essentials like clothes, shoes, socks, etc., but Disney World is often HARD on the body, so you’ll also want to pack first aid supplies, an anti-chafe stick if you’re traveling during the warmer months, all the chargers you’ll need for your devices, portable charger, and of course, items to deal with the rain. While you can buy these items at Disney and/or in Orlando, but the thing is that they’ll be MUCH more expensive, so save yourself some money and buy this one essential ahead of time.

One of the worst feelings anywhere, but especially in Disney World, is being soaking wet and still having a large part of your day to go. It doesn’t matter if it’s hot outside or freezing in the middle of winter, being soaked isn’t fun.

Disney ponchos aren’t ideal

So having an umbrella or poncho is of utmost importance, even if you end up not using it that trip (trust us, we find that when we DON’T have them, it rains more often, because we’re just lucky like that). But buying a poncho in Disney World is NOT the way to go. Those things are made of cheap material and are priced egregiously and when it’s hot out, you feel like you’re cooking in an oven. Unlike other ponchos, Disney ponchos are hard to reuse (not impossible, but hard) which means you’re dropping a ton of cash on something you’ll only use once.

We don’t recommend these ponchos

Instead, grab one of our favorite ponchos — the FROGG TOGGS Rain Poncho! While $13 certainly isn’t cheap, this is a poncho that’s made of durable material and can be used over, and over, and over again, whether you’re in Disney World or on another vacation.

Emma in her Frogg Toggs Poncho

Emma and I (JP here, hi!) both have used them in the parks and loved them — Emma’s recommendation is actually what convinced me to get one! What we both love about these is how much of you it actually covers and how quickly it dries on its own after the rain has finished. Plus, you can scrunch it up around your face to more effectively block your head and face.

If you’re not a fan of pink, no worries, there are five other colors available!

  1. One of my best investments was a waterproof jacket and trousers and jelly shoes for Kali River Ride. We escaped a soaking the first time but everyone else was drenched. So next time we went, we put all our gear on and have been totally dry each time. We also take a small towel. Those garments and beach shoes have been used so many times when the Florida skies have sent biblical amounts of rain down. They squash up really well too.
