Things are getting Wicked at Universal…
The latest series of Starbucks Discovery Series mugs are coming to Universal theme parks in both Hollywood and Florida. However, these destination-themed mugs don’t represent any real locations on either the East or West Coast. Instead, they’re paying tribute to somewhere over the rainbow…
The three new mugs celebrate locations from the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked, with one paying tribute to Munchkinland, one to Shiz University, and one to the Emerald City. These are available exclusively at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort.
Wicked is the heavily-promoted and highly-anticipated film adaption of the mega-successful Broadway musical of the same name, the first part of which is coming out this November. The musical (itself an adaptation of a novel which, in turn, had been based on the classic Wizard of Oz universe) tells the story of “Elphaba, a misunderstood young woman because of her green skin, and Glinda, a popular girl, become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. After an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads.”
The film version stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, with Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum in supporting roles, and is directed by Jon Chu.
According to Starbucks, the Discovery Series is a “collection of merchandise that tells stories of each location through its iconic landmarks, unique food, local activities and people. Every piece is designed to match the vibe and energy of a city.”
Three new Wicked mugs are available from Starbucks at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida. Stay tuned to AllEars for more coverage of Wicked’s release.
