It appears MORE Star Wars movies are in the works at Disney.
Disney has continued the Star Wars franchise through Episode 7, 8, and 9, new shows on Disney+, including The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Obi Wan Kenobi, and more, and an upcoming new movie based on The Mandalorian, The Mandalorian and Grogu. But now, Disney and Lucasfilm are looking to continue the saga!
According to Deadline, Lucasfilm and Disney are planning on creating a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, and they have tapped Simon Kinberg to write and produce it.
Kinberg is known for his work on X-Men, Deadpool, Logan, and Dark Phoenix. He will work with studio chief Kathleen Kennedy. Insiders have shared that the new trilogy will be a brand-new series with brand-new characters. It has been disputed that the new trilogy would continue the previous storyline, however, according to Variety, that storyline ended the original nine-chapter Skywalker Saga with Episode 9.
The new plot of the new trilogy is yet unknown as it’s still in early development. It’s currently unclear when it will go into production. The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theaters on May 22nd, 2026 as a continuation of the hit Disney+ show, plus untitled Star Wars movies are scheduled for December 18th, 2026 and December 17th, 2027.
