REVIEW: Our HONEST Thoughts About Dinner at Disney World’s Pricey New Restaurant

After a wait that felt like an eternity, we FINALLY got a chance to try the brand-new The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers!

The Cake Bake Shop

Located at Disney’s BoardWalk, this spot has been a long time coming. Announced over two years ago, The Cake Bake Shop Restaurant and Bakery has  been delayed into late 2024. Well, the wait is finally over and we were able to try some of the treats available there. Of course we also had to review the lunch and dinner menu, as well!

The Cake Bake Shop is known for its sweets and treats, and yes, we tried some of those goodies, too, but you can also get some savory lunch and dinner items here. We even ordered a drink!

So let’s start with the drink, Gwen’s Famous Cosmo is made with Ketel One vodka, Cointreau, fresh lime, cranberry, orange oil, and garnished with an orange peel for $20.99. Now we get why it’s famous because it’s impeccable. This drink just SHINES and is so nice and smooth. We also liked the twist the orange peel added to the whole flavor — it just elevates the entire drink.

We started with the Three Cheese Cavatappi w/ Basil Breadcrumbs for  $23.99. It’s made with Gruyère, Vermont sharp cheddar, and a touch of bleu cheese melted in a homemade cream sauce with applewood smoked bacon folded into cavatappi pasta and topped with toasted basil breadcrumbs. It’s also served with a freshly toasted half French baguette and salted European butter.

Three cheese cavatappi with basil bread crumbs

This was our favorite thing that we tried. The blend of the three cheeses with the bread crumbs on top was creamy perfection. You also get the taste of the smoked applewood bacon in every bite.

Delicious

This comes with bread and English salted butter. Honestly, the bread and butter was okay, but nothing memorable. The butter is salted, but not TOO much. It’s also very creamy.

Next up was the Choose Two for $26.99 and we selected the French Ham & Brie Sandwich and Lemon Caesar Salad. The sandwich is made with sliced French ham and Brie cheese served warm on a toasted French baguette with Maille Dijon mustard and mayonnaise sauce with an arugula salad dressed with a homemade lemon vinaigrette topped with parmesan cheese. The salad is freshly-cut romaine lettuce tossed in homemade Caesar dressing with anchovies, olive oil, Parmesan cheese, and lemon and topped with more Parmesan cheese and homemade croutons.

Let’s start with the salad. We’ll say it was just okay, but it did have the right amount of Parmesan cheese on top. What sold it for us, though, were the home made croutons.

It’s an okay salad

The sandwich, though, was fantastic. It tasted fresh and was fluffy on the inside, but also held its form well. The Dijon mustard sauce added a nice creaminess and we liked that it wasn’t too sharp — it mixed well with the mayo. The whole sandwich just was a great combo of ingredients.

Next up is dessert — which is REALLY what we’re here for, right? The Key Lime Pie! will set you back $18, so it better live up to the hype. For us, it absolutely did. We’re not kidding when we say this is the BEST key lime pie crust we’ve ever tried.

The only real complaint was too much whipped cream, which took away the flavor of the key lime a little bit. With that said, the pie was so light with a tasty whipped pie filling. All in all, very good.

Key Lime Pie

Next, we tried the  Millionaire Cake for $26 a slice. If you thought the Key Lime Pie was expensive, you’ll probably avoid this altogether. However, it’ll be tough to skip if you’re a huge chocolate fan.

The flavor profile of our slice was incredible. Chocolate, buttercream, salted caramel, shortbread cookies, and ganache all build up this cake into something truly delicious. We also think the size of the slice is big and can be shared by up to four people, making this a great shared snack that helps justify the cost.

Millionaire Cake

Finally, when at Disney World, you have to indulge in every magical so you know we had to try the Magic Bar! This dessert costs $16 and is made with chocolate, sweet coconut, butter, and a little bit of magic.

We found this bar to be fairly rich, yet tasty with the coconut standing out. With that said, it was our least favorite of the three desserts we tried and don’t think it’s for everyone. At the end of the day, you’ll need to stop on by and try out the menu to find your favorites!

Magic Bar

Let there be cake! Yes, there was cake. This time, we tried the Raspberry Champagne Cake for $22.99 made with three layers of vanilla cake brushed with a French champagne simple syrup and filled with raspberry pixie jam and fresh raspberries. It’s frosted with a champagne vanilla buttercream topped with fresh raspberries. The cake is glittery — like it just glistens in the sun.

Raspberry Champagne Cake

It’s so light and moist, and the frosting just melts in your mouth. Unlike other frostings, it doesn’t leave that thick lard-like taste in the roof of your mouth. It reminds us a little of the Millionaire Cake. It’s absolutely delicious. The raspberries are also delicious and SO fresh. One thing we’ve learned here: you will never be served a subpar piece of cake at The Cake Bake Shop.

The cake here is top-notch

The whole dining experience was very fancy and gave us luxury vibes. We felt very well cared for and taken care of without having to fork out the $$$ for a meal at a place like Victoria & Albert’s.

So far we’ve been pretty impressed with what we’ve tried here. We do know that the prices are higher than you might pay at other table service restaurants in Disney World, but this is definitely a special occasion spot. 1. Don’t get to comfortable with this place…..it will be gone by the end of 2025. Look what happened with the Star Wars Hotel and the outrageous prices they were sticking guests with. People are getting tired of paying Bob Igers 28 million a year salary.
