We talk ad nauseum about how to choose the right Disney World hotel for you and how to plan your next visit down to a science.

However, things aren’t always as you would imagine them to be on your trip and when we asked our readers about their grossest Disney World hotel experiences, they delivered!
Look — we’ve all been there and sometimes not everything is practically perfect about your Disney World hotel. While we all go into our Disney World vacations with the idea of what that perfect trip looks like in our minds, when it comes to the reality of the situation, sometimes they just don’t align and it can lead to committing the weirder parts of your vacation to memory more prominently.

We recently asked our readers to tell us about the grossest things they’ve seen at their Disney World hotels while on visiting and boy did you all have some WILD stories to share! So we decided to give you a few examples as there were some strong opinions and ones we saw repeated a few times over.
BUGS!
Yep, we’re talking about bugs of all shapes, kinds, sizes, and even amount of legs. Most of our readers mentioned the occasional bug in their room and to be fair, we’ve had our fair share on the team here, too.

While just their mere mention is enough to make the hair on your arms stand straight up, most of the time these little guys are super harmless. Yes, they may look creepy and they’re the last mate you want to share your room with but chances are they’ve found their way into your new digs solely by accident. When the temperatures go on a rollercoaster or the rain rolls in, this is when you’re most likely to see an uptick in their presence.

Usually, a quick call down to the front desk from your room phone (or a brave soul in your room willing to take one for the team) can be the solution to ushering these guys in their swift eviction notice! If you’re really feeling extra jittery about them around you and your belongings, you can also ask the front desk about having pest control do a quick sweep around the room as well.
However, for honorable mention, there was another topic that seemed to come up quite often.
Cleanliness Issues
Our readers came in hot to the comments about cleaning issues they had experienced in their hotel rooms. While this isn’t an isolated instance solely to Disney World hotels, we can see where people would hold their Disney World hotel rooms to a higher standard than maybe other hotels they’ve stayed in.

The issues our readers seemed to have encountered varied from things like “Mold in the bathroom in my room & someone’s used razor” as was Ashley T.’s experience to things like what Amanda M. saw with “unclean bathroom at Riverside….hair on floor and in tub, dust everywhere, no towels, dusty room as well.”

Sure, we’re all human and we’re not going to try to pretend that cleaning hotel rooms by the dozen and maintaining entire floors between a handful of Cast Members is an easy job by any stretch of the imagination. It’s a hard and often thankless job (please remember to thank your Cast Members, everyone, including housekeeping), and yet these folks do their best each day to see that you’ve got a clean “home” to come back to. However, because this came up quite often in the comments, we’re also realistic, and sometimes things get missed and need to be remedied.

Our best advice when you’ve been alerted that your hotel room is ready for your arrival is to pop in and check everything out at your first convenience. Take some time to look over your room’s sanitation and cleanliness including checking floors, closets, drawers for missed belongings, and yes — bathrooms. Should your room need further attention, it’s best to phone down to or swing by the front desk to speak to a Cast Member who’s able to help coordinate the quickest plan of action to get your room cleaned up as quickly as possible.

Have you ever experienced any gross Disney World park or hotel experiences? Tell us all about it in the comments!
When we visited Disney World last year we stayed at Pop Century Resort. We decided to have a rest day by the pool. Three times that day they had to close the pool as someone had pooed in it by accident.
I walked into my resort room to find a half eaten apple/caramel dip snack on the bed. Otherwise, the room was clean. Maybe the maid was multitasking. Maybe the previous guest left it. It wasn’t a deal breaker, just odd.
