The newest chapter of Lorcana is coming out SOON!

You’ll be able to purchase the new sets of cards in hobby stores and online this month (August), and we could not be more excited! We had to get our hands on it ASAP and try it out. Keep reading to learn more about Lorcana and the newest chapter — Shimmering Skies!
Lorcana Background
Lorcana is a strategy card game in which the players are called “Illumineers.” The Illumineers wield magical ink to use “glimmers” which are Disney characters, items, actions, songs, and new to Into the Inkwells, locations. The goal of the game is to race your opponent across the realm of Lorcana to gain more “lore” aka points. The lore was scattered throughout the realm during Rise of the Floodborn (or so the story goes) when unleashed ink flooded.

So basically, you play a strategy game against an opponent or group of opponents using the abilities on the cards and race to gather 20 lore (points) before the others. Characters, items, actions, songs, and locations all bring with them special abilities.
For example, characters you can quest to gain lore or challenge opponents to slow them down from getting their lore. Items can give you special advantages such as picking up a card from the deck if one of your characters is banished during a challenge with an opponent.

Back in March, Disney released Into the Inklands then Ursula’s Return was released in May. But now, Disney has announced the release of Shimmering Skies! The new set will be released to hobby stores on August 9th and everywhere else (including online) on August 23rd!
Shimmering Skies
The latest installment of the story begins as the characters are gathered at the Great Illuminary celebrating all their adventures when suddenly something appears in the sky! We begin our new journey of Lorcana in Shimmering Skies.

Shimmering Skies introduces two new starter decks. The first of the two features Elsa and Wreck-It Ralph as an Amethyst and Ruby deck.

New characters such as Wreck-It Ralph himself are featured in this new deck! You’ll find the foil cards of Elsa and Ralph, and they’ll provide lots of help in your journey.

Other new characters include Vanellope and her racing buddies! Each provides different advantages for your deck.

A new location card is also in the starter deck — The Library!

And you’ll also find new actions such as Glimmer vs. Glimmer. You’ll banish one of your characters to banish one of your opponents.

The next starter set is in Emerald and Steel and features Villains Scar and Kronk!

A foil card of both Kronk and Scar is included in this deck. Kronk is a super rare card that will certainly be useful as you play!

New characters like Yzma and new actions like Night Howler Rage are included in the deck. You might have noticed a pattern that this deck is a lot of Disney Villains! Not all the characters and actions are Villains, but many of them are, giving this chapter a slight Heroes vs. Villains theme.

The new location card in this deck is The Rainforest which added a bit of intrigue to the game!

In general, the game is played exactly the same as before, and you can mix and match cards from other chapters. However, new elements make this chapter even more fun! You can also purchase booster packs with this new chapter as well.

How to Play in 10 Easy Steps
