As you may know, certain health hazards could potentially impact your trip, which is why we recently let you know about an outbreak of measles in the state of Florida. We now need to tell you that there have been cases of measles reported in the Orlando area.
Recently, the first case of measles was reported in Central Florida, marking the first adult case of the contagious disease in 2024. Now, though, according to The Orlando Sentinel, four cases have been confirmed in the Orlando area. Orlando Health reported that one of the cases was in an adult, while the other three were in children under 2 years of age.

However, Florida State officials have stressed that there is no outbreak in the Orlando area. The Florida State Health Department has reported a total of 10 cases in the state in 2024 so far, including those mentioned so far plus nine in Broward County. Many of the cases in Broward County were linked to an outbreak at a local school.

Those officials believe that the cases in Orlando were actually contracted outside of the area. The case numbers also don’t include those who receive treatment in Florida but are not actually from Florida. Healthcare officials are required by law to report cases in Florida residents, though.
At the national level, the CDC has reported that there are at least 35 measles in 15 states so far this year, with almost all of those related to traveling internationally. Measles are highly infectious, but also preventable, thanks to vaccines, which are 97 percent effective against the disease.
