NEWS: Virtual Queue CHANGE Announced for Disney World

Believe it or not, 2024 is almost here and that means big changes at Disney World!

Magic Kingdom

Starting in the new year, we’re going to see a lot of changes at Disney World. Annual Passholder “Good to Go” days will appear on January 11th, while park pass reservations will be a thing of the past for most guests on January 9th. Park hopping will go back to normal on January 9th meaning that you can park hop anytime you want!

With park hopping returning and with park pass reservations going away, we were curious to see how Disney would handle the rides that utilize virtual queues. Now, we know!

TRON Virtual Queue

Disney has now stated that starting January 9th, guests will be able to join one attraction virtual queue at any theme park where they have a valid admission. A virtual queue is used for two rides currently at Disney World — Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle / Run.

How is this different than currently? Right now, you would need a park reservation to a specific park to join that virtual queue. For example, if you wanted to join the TRON Lightcycle / Run virtual queue, you would need a park pass reservation for Magic Kingdom. On January 9th, you could join either virtual queue offered at Disney World.

Guests will still need to be inside the park to make that 1PM request to join the virtual queue. Annual Passholders will still need to have a park pass on days not labeled as “Good to Go” days.

  1. If you need to be in the park to make the request what is the real difference? By definition you’d have had a reservation before for that park.

  2. I don’t understand why annual passholders would still need any kind of reservations if other people do not. Disney already has our money upfront why do we have to have reservations?!?!
