5 Things Disney Adults Say That Nobody Understands

Because we’re Disney adults, it’s hard to know that we sometimes say things that other people just don’t get.

Sometimes we say things some folks don’t get

That’s because we eat, drink, and LIVE all things Disney, so these Disney terms and phrases are forever stuck in our heads and our lexicon. So we don’t realize that when we say these things, those people who are NOT Disney adults have NO idea what we’re talking about.

The Acronyms

When we talk about Disney, we may have a habit of using acronyms for things. For us, we’re going to refer to Disney’s Animal Kingdom as DAK. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is always BTMR. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is MMRR. The list goes on and on. For us, this is just a normal way to have a quick conversation about our favorite things. We’ve even referred to Be Our Guest as BOG.

The Tree of Life at DAK

Here’s the thing. Those folks who don’t go to Disney Parks often have NO idea what we’re referring to. Obviously, it’s then our job to educate them. Won’t they just LOVE that?

Randomly inserting ride or movie quotes into normal conversation

What do you mean that most people don’t randomly start talking about “The Back Side of Water” like it’s a normal thing? Or they don’t welcome people into their house without menacingly saying, “Welcome, foolish mortals?”  Or they don’t arrive at a party asking “Why is the rum gone?” We will even tell you we wish there was a “Lightning Lane” to Friday at the beginning of the week.

Ladies and gentlemen, the back side of water!

Okay, we are SO guilty of inserting Disney references into anything, and we’ll tell you something else — we’ll also burst into song occasionally, too. So don’t be alarmed when we start singing about the “Bare Necessities” when looking at our budget or start belting “Almost There,” when we’re almost done with a task. Sorry, not sorry.

Disneybounding

So, here’s a head scratcher: most non-Disney folks have no idea what Disneybounding is. That might seem weird, as it’s part of our LIFE, but dressing up in outfits inspired by Disney characters is foreign to those who don’t know about it.

So the next time someone tells you your outfit is nice, and you respond with “Thanks, I’m Disneybounding Aurora,” don’t be surprised when they stare at you like you’ve just grown an extra head. Rope Drop

Okay, so let’s say you’re trying to give a Disney Parks newbie some advice, and you’re telling them that they need to rope drop in order to hop on some rides before the lines get long. There’s a good chance that person has NO idea what rope drop is because they’ve never experienced it.

What’s really funny is that the word is SO literal in its meaning: it’s when Disney Parks drop the rope to let you into the parks exactly at opening. We could say “opening time,” but where’s the fun in that?

This does go back to using Disney words in non-Disney situations, too, because we’ll often say things like “I’m going to rope drop the DMV to avoid longer lines” and folks have no idea what you’re talking about.

“I’m booking another Disney trip”

This could be the most perplexing thing you could ever say to someone who is NOT a Disney fan. We get it — we know that booking that next Disney trip will give you the serotonin you need to get through however long you have to wait until that trip. We get how much fun it is just to be anticipating that next trip.

Knowing we’ll see this again soon makes life so much better

Instead, the regular folks are like “Why don’t you go somewhere else?” This is obviously a sign that they have not yet been to Disney, and that maybe they need to go and experience what we know: Disney is a magic you can’t find anywhere else on Earth.
