Whether there are new restaurants or stores in your home airport, or your go-to airline has changed its reward system, it’s important to keep up with the latest changes in travel. That way you can have the smoothest trip possible! One airline just announced a change to its boarding process — let’s get into it.

In an effort to speed up the boarding process, United Airlines is making some updates. On October 26th, 2023, for basic economy ticket holders, window seat passengers will board first, followed by those in middle seats, and then people in aisle seats.

According to NPR, the change is set to cut boarding time by up to two minutes. United said the boarding times have increased by two minutes since 2019 and after testing this process in five cities, it proved successful.

The boarding process for pre-boarding groups (including families with small children, active-duty military members, unaccompanied minors, and people with disabilities) will stay the same. People in boarding groups one through three also will not change.

The change applies to U.S. domestic flights as well as flights from the U.S. to the Caribbean, Canada, and some Central and South American destinations.

  1. So – I board while my wife and grown-up daughter stay waiting at the gate, then my daughter boards leaving my wife standing by herself, then my wife eventually boards alone? That’s not a great system!

    1. I agree with Andy . As a senior I sure don’t want to be left standing alone. Thanks for the heads up…. Will be looking at another airline.
