We’re already stocking up on the Star Wars holiday merchandise we’ve been seeing, and we can’t believe that Imagineers have started testing out the most adorable small droids in Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge. But a majorly important prop from the films was just found and auctioned off for a MASSIVE price!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, an original 20-inch model of an X-wing starfighter that was used in the climatic space battle in 1977’s Star Wars film, long believed to be lost, was recently found in late Oscar-nominated modelmaker Greg Jein’s garage.

This is “one of just four ‘hero’ filming miniatures with articulating servo-controlled wings and lights,” which were used for close-ups in the final battle scene. VFX historian Gene Kozicki is also quoted saying that the model “has not been displayed or modified since it left ILM.”

In a recent auction at Heritage Auction in Dallas, the model sold for a record-breaking price of $3.135 million! This makes it the “most expensive Star Wars screen-used prop sold at auction.”
