When traveling, you should always prepare for the worst. Something is bound to go off plan at some point during the trip!

You can spend months planning the perfect vacation and making sure everything is in order, but there are unpredictable things that will happen that throw you off. Flights get canceled and rides break down! While you may already have that in mind, we recently saw a travel problem that we never really thought about!
Let’s take a trip over to Orlando Airport (MCO) — the most popular airport for Disney World visitors to fly in and out of. If you’ve ever been here, then you’ve probably been on the GateLink. It’s almost like a Monorail for the Orlando Airport!

The GateLink takes guests between the gates and the main airport hub with security and baggage claim. It’s a pretty quick ride and they are constantly running back and forth.

However, in June 2023, the GateLink at MCO broke down leaving passengers stranded. Visitors posted various videos of their experience online.

That’s right — passengers had to evacuate the tram and walk between the two areas of the airport. You can see them walking along the track. Although it is a quick ride, it is NOT a quick walk — especially in Florida’s summer heat!

If you’re flying out of Orlando Airport, remember to leave yourself plenty of time to catch your flight. We’ve seen some wild security lines and wait times and if the GateLink breaks down, you’ll need some additional time to walk to your gate.

One of the many reasons we avoid the Orlando airport and fly through Tampa and rent a car. The drive from Tampa takes about the same time as the Orlando security lines or the trip to get baggage and slog through the Orlando car rental outlets.
