Your Disney “Must Watch” List Is About to Get Longer

There are SO many Disney shows out there that it can be difficult to pick what you should watch. But you might need to add a few more to your list soon!

Disney has been announcing updates for various movies and shows lately — from major changes in its movie release schedule to trailers that’ll make you cry — but recently they dropped a BUNCH of animation-related news.

Disney recently released a whole BUNCH of updates as part of the Annecy Festival — which is the “world’s largest event dedicated to animation” according to the Festival’s website. There’s been a LOT to catch up on so allow us to share the biggest updates with you right here!

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

First up, a NEW Disney Junior animated show called Ariel has been announced. It’s an animated musical series inspired by The Little Mermaid and is made for preschoolers. It’s set to be released in 2024 and (according to Disney) “follows 8-year-old Ariel as she and her friends go on underwater adventures throughout their Caribbean-inspired fairytale kingdom of Atlantica.”

It’ll feature “fan-favorite characters from the original feature film, including King Triton, Ursula, Sebastian and Flounder, as well as exciting new additions like Ariel’s two best friends, mer-children Lucia and Fernie.”

Disney has also announced a series of shorts called The Wonderful World of Songs. These will come to Disney Junior and are “reimagined versions of classic Disney songs,” including “Circle of Life” from The Lion King, “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana, and the “Mickey Mouse March.”

Disney Junior will also be getting some shorts called Playdate with Winnie the Pooh and a first look was recently shared. The shorts will be musical and focus “on a young Pooh Bear as he enjoys fun playdates with his friends.” They’ll debut this summer in the U.S. and then will roll out to the rest of the world.

The main voice cast has been announced for Disney Primos, coming soon to Disney Channel! The cast will include:

  • Myrna Velasco as Tater Ramirez Humphrey
  • Melissa Villaseñor as Tater’s younger sister, Nellie Ramirez Humphrey
  • Michelle Ortiz as Tater’s mom, Bibi Ramirez Humphrey
  • Jim Conroy as voices Tater’s dad, Bud Humphrey

Plus, the main theme song was released which you can see below.

Disney has shared that ZOMBIES: The Re-Animated Series Shorts will debut on July 21st on Disney Channel and the Disney Channel YouTube. Then, they’ll head to Disney+.

In the shorts,  Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly will reprise their roles as Zed and Addison.

Plus, other stars from Zombies will be back in this animated show, including:

  • Chandler Kinney – Willa
  • Pearce Joza – Wyatt
  • Carla Jeffery – Bree
  • Trevor Tordjman – Bucky
  • Jonathan Langdon – Coach

Want MORE animation news? Disney has shared that a show called StuGo has been greenlit by Disney Television. It’ll follow “six over-ambitious middle schoolers who get tricked into attending a fake academic summer camp by a mad scientist & find themselves stuck on a wild tropical island with mind-reading manatees, giant fighting fungi, & fashion-forward mutants.”

The cast will include:

Disney also announced that “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse: Steamboat Silly” short will debut on July 28th on Disney+ as part of the 100th Anniversary. You can see our post about that here!

According to Variety, Disney has also announced that a new preschool adventure series called Magicampers has been greenlit. It’s described as following “the adventures of best friends Darly and Loomis at a day camp for magical creatures. Darly is half-pig and half-Pegasus, Loomis is half-donkey and half-unicorn, and their friends are mythical mashups of all stripes. They dream of becoming legendary, but becoming a legend isn’t about mastering magic powers or winning the biggest prize. It’s about understanding and accepting yourself and others, and working together. The series stars a diverse young cast, with Uzo Aduba as nature spirit and camp leader Treena.”

It’s set to premiere globally on Disney+ and Disney Junior in 2024.

Variety notes that another new title Disney has announced is a comedy-mystery series called The Sunnyridge 3. It’ll focus on “three friends who decide to finally investigate what’s really going on in a truly bizarre shopping center.”

Disney describes the show as follows: “Rose, Jeru and Wayne practically grew up at the Sunnyridge Mall, but this summer, the weirdness has gone to a whole new level. Could it be werewolves, hauntings or an ancient curse? Robots, aliens or renegade AI? The trio will discover that the truth is always stranger than fiction in this unpredictable genre-bending mashup created by British team Stevie Gee and Essy May.”

Disney has also revealed an official trailer for Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire. It will debut on July 5th on Disney+. It’s described as follows: “This action-packed animated sci-fi anthology presents 10 futuristic visions from Africa inspired by its diverse histories and cultures…the shorts draw on uniquely African perspectives to imagine brave new worlds of advanced technology, aliens, spirits and monsters. Featuring stories from creators from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe, it takes viewers on an unforgettable ride into Africa’s future, presenting visions of the continent as never seen before.”

Plus, Disney has announced that there will be new episodes of Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life debuting later this year.

In terms of show renewals, Disney has announced:

  • Firebuds has been renewed for a 3rd season — it’ll feature a water rescue theme
  • Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends has been renewed for a 4th season
  • Kiff has been renewed for season 2
  • The Proud Family Louder and Prouder has been renewed for a 3rd season

Variety notes that sneak peeks were also shared of The Doomies (which follows friends who open a gateway to another world), and Dragon Striker (which is a sports drama where “elite players have magical signature moves they can use on the pitch”).
