The Single Best Disney World Change in the Past 5 Years

One of Walt Disney’s visions was that the Disney Parks would never stop changing, evolving, and becoming better. While we’ve seen numerous changes take place at Disney World within the past five years, there are a few changes that we happen to love more than others.

Skyliner

The BEST Disney World change in the past five years, in our opinion, would be the addition of the Disney Skyliner. The gondola system debuted at Disney World in September 2019 and has since allowed guests easier access between Disney’s Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts, Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT’s International Gateway. With over 300 gondolas wrapped in bright colors and some even wrapped in character decals, the Skyliner decorates the skies at Disney World and can be a fun experience for many.

So, what’s so great about the Skyliner? Why do we consider it the BEST addition to Disney World within the last five years? Well, we’re here to tell ya. Here are four reasons why we often decide to take the Skyliner over other forms of Disney World transportation.

Disney’s Skyliner

1. Access between Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT

As we mentioned earlier, you can board the Skyliner at both Hollywood Studios and EPCOT, and can easily park hop between the two by using the Skyliner.

Of course, you could take a bus, a boat, or even walk to travel between parks, but the Skyliner experience can’t be beaten. Taking the Skyliner honestly takes just as long (if not longer) to get between the two parks, but to us, it’s worth it — which brings us to our next point.

2. The Skyliner is an attraction in itself.

It’s true — the Skyliner is considered to be yet another iconic Disney attraction by many. It’s a fun and unique way to see the parks and resorts from above.

Disney’s Skyliner

Going on the Skyliner for the first time really did allow us to see Disney World in a way we’ve never seen before. It’s like a real-life aerial shot of all the magic! You can ask to be seated in a gondola without a character wrap so that you can sightsee more easily. During busy times or days, Cast Members may not be able to accommodate this request, but it’s worth asking if you want a clear view!

3. It’s a GREAT way to cool off.

The Skyliner gondolas don’t have air conditioning, but the ventilation of the gondolas, while you’re moving through the air, allows for a quick way to cool off from the hot day.

Inside the Skyliner

It can be a quiet and peaceful ride which is why many families take their children aboard the Skyliner for a quick nap or snack. What’s even better is that you don’t have to disassemble or take your children out of their strollers while riding. It’s the perfect opportunity for a quick nap.

4. It offers a unique resort-hopping experience.

Resort-hopping — visiting the different Disney World resorts to check out the theming, gift shops, and restaurants — is most often done between the monorail resorts.

Disney’s Riviera Resort

With the addition of the Skyliner, resort-hopping between lesser-visited resorts became easier, allowing guests to get off the “beaten path” a bit more. Now you can get between a deluxe hotel (the Riviera), a moderate hotel (Caribbean Beach), and two value hotels (Art of Animation and Pop Century) all on one easy form of transportation!
