When Disneyland’s Splash Mountain Could Close FOREVER

If you haven’t already heard, Splash Mountain is closing at both Disney World and Disneyland to be replaced by Tiana’s Bayou Adventure!

Time is running out for this ride

While the attraction at Disney World has already closed and construction has begun, the attraction at Disneyland remains open.

So, when will Splash Mountain close at Disneyland?

Splash Mountain

Well, Disney has made no official announcement about when Splash Mountain will close in Disneyland. BUT there are a few clues that could help us determine when the ride will close.

When could Splash Mountain close forever in Disneyland?

For one, we can look at how soon the ride closed after Disney announced its closure date. Disney World announced on December 2nd that Splash Mountain would close on January 22nd. That means there was a buffer of about a month and a half. You might be wondering “what does this have to do with Disneyland?” We’ll tell you!

If Disney follows the same kind of announcement schedule, Splash Mountain will probably not close within the next month. This is based on the fact that Disney has not made an announcement for Disneyland’s Splash Mountain closure just yet.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Model

Another important thing to note is the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opening timeline. Disney previously stated that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure would open in Disneyland and Disney World in late 2024Disney World’s new ride is already being worked on, but Disneyland has yet to close the attraction — so how are they going to open around the same time?

Looking back at projects in both Disneyland and Disney World, it seems that attractions are built faster over on the west coast. For instance, TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom started construction over 5 years ago, and although the ride is in previews now, it still has not opened to the public.

On the other hand, the brand new Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is open in Disneyland’s Toontown. This was first announced in April 2019 (construction hadn’t even started at this point), and it was open by January 2023. Both of the rides’ progress was halted by the pandemic, but Disneyland still managed to finish much faster.

Because of this, it’s possible that Disneyland doesn’t need as much time to complete the retheme. Opening timelines can move if Disney needs more time, so we’ll just have to wait and see how Disneyland’s closing date for Splash Mountain impacts the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
