Several Popular Rides Have Suddenly CLOSED in Disney World

Disney World is off to a rough start this morning.

Various things can happen unexpectedly in Disney World that can absolutely RUIN your trip plans — technical issues, sudden transportation problems, and (something we often talk about) ride closures. On February 10th, 2023, we noticed quite a few ride closures that could really throw off your schedule in the parks.

On February 10th, several MAJOR rides unexpectedly closed in Disney World. As of 9:34AM ET, that included Pirates of the Caribbean, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.

Just a few moments before (when the screenshot below was taken), The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad had also closed. Those rides swiftly reopened.

Update: By around 9:51AM, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster had reopened.

Sometimes rides can remain closed for an extended time on any given day, or (as we saw with some rides this morning) rides can sometimes quickly reopen after they’ve temporarily shut down. It can greatly depend on what is causing the closure.

These sudden and unexpected ride closures aren’t something you can really predict, but you can prepare for them in a way! Here’s what to do if a ride suddenly closes during your trip:

Check the My Disney Experience app constantly for updates (if a wait time is displayed, you’ll know the ride has likely reopened!)
Ask Cast Members outside of the attraction if they know what has happened and if they have a better idea about when the ride might reopen
Come up with a plan “B” in case one of your must-do rides unexpectedly closes
Mentally prepare little ones for potential closures by discussing the possibility at home
Use that closure time to knock other things off of your list, take a break, grab a snack, or otherwise utilize your time in the park!
