Disney movies have definitely made a big impact on pop culture!

Many people recognize popular characters like Woody and Buzz thanks to the Toy Story movies, Marvel products seem to be around every corner, and it’s safe to say that Star Wars is one of the most beloved film franchises of all time. There is a way for these culturally significant movies to be recognized, and 3 Disney movies just received the special honor!
Three Disney films have been added to the National Film Registry! They are Flowers and Trees (1932), Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), and WALL•E (2008).

These 3 films were among the annual selection of 25 influential movies to be inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress by the National Film Preservation Board. Each of them were chosen because of their cultural, historic, or aesthetic importance to the United States’ film heritage.

Flowers and Trees was released during the Great Depression and shows singing birds and trees in full color. This was a landmark in Disney animation and actually convinced Walt Disney to make all of the future Silly Symphony shorts in color, and then go on to make Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Flowers and Trees also won the Academy Award for Best Cartoon!

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi doesn’t need much explanation, but we’ll give it to you anyway. This was one of two films chosen for the registry this year through online nominations, receiving the most public votes! Return of the Jedi was the third movie of the original Star Wars trilogy and shows characters like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo visit places such as Tatooine and Endor.

WALL•E is a Pixar film that focuses on a lonely trash-collecting robot. During the film, WALL•E (which stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifter: Earth Class) meets another robot, EVE (Extra-terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator). The film won an Academy Award for Outstanding Animated Feature — it used incredible animation, imaginative set design, and little dialogue to create two characters that ultimately told a universal story of love and friendship.

How exciting! These 3 movies definitely made a big impact on pop culture and the world of filmmaking, so their spots seem well deserved. Stay tuned to All Ears for more Disney media news and updates!
