NEWS: Indoor Mask Mandate Will Return Statewide to California Soon

UPDATE: The California mask mandate was extended until February 15th, 2022. According to CNN, California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, has since confirmed that the indoor mask mandate will indeed expire on February 15th. For more details see the update in the post below.

A lot has changed in Disneyland Resort when it comes to health and safety measures since reopening.

Originally, face masks were required to be worn by all guests in all indoor and outdoor areas, but the policies changed in July 2021 to require masks to be worn indoors only (regardless of vaccination status). And, with growing concern over the Delta and emerging Omicron variants of COVID-19, the state has now issued a new order that will impact the amount of time guests can expect to be required to wear masks indoors.

According to Deadline, California state officials have announced that they will be implementing a statewide indoor mask mandate beginning Wednesday, December 13th, 2021. Currently, the order is set to run through January 15th, 2022.

This mandate is a response to the 47% increase in COVID-19 cases that the state has seen since Thanksgiving with the State Director of Health and Human Services, Dr. Mark Ghaly, reporting that hospitals are experiencing patient rates that are “significantly above their baseline for this time of year.”

Deadline also shared that Delta strain continues to be the dominant COVID-19 strain that the state is reporting. However, the Omicron variant has been identified in 13 cases, including a few that are said to be related to community transmission rather than international travel.

As we noted before, Disneyland Resort currently has an indoor mask mandate in effect for all guests, so those visiting will not see much of a change once the order goes into place on Wednesday. However, you can now expect the health and safety policy to remain in place through early 2022 at the least.

UPDATE: As CNN reports, California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, has confirmed that the state’s indoor mask mandate will expire on February 15th. Unvaccinated individuals, however, must still wear masks while in indoor public settings.

Disneyland continues to require all individuals (regardless of vaccination status) to wear masks in indoor settings. This policy will continue to be in effect (regardless of the change happening with the state’s rule) unless and until Disneyland announces a change.
