The recent surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations seems to have added some hesitancy back back into the travel industry. The Bahamas released an Emergency Powers earlier this month, mandating that cruise ships verify that all passengers age 12 and up are vaccinated before they are allowed to dock any port.
Looking ahead to Labor Day Weekend, the head of the U.S. Center for Disease Control is urging caution amongst those who are considering travel, and is advising certain individuals stay home altogether.
According to CNN, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky stated yesterday that “if you are unvaccinated, we would recommend not traveling.” Those who are vaccinated can travel this weekend “with precautions,” and it was noted that even fully vaccinated travelers need to “take Covid-19 risk into consideration when deciding whether to travel.”
This advisory comes as hospitals nationwide are being stretched thin, with data showing “a hospitalization rate 16 times greater in the unvaccinated population than in those vaccinated.”
