With Tropical Storm Elsa going up the East Coast this week, many meteorologists have been looking towards the future, making changes to previous predictions.
Recently, the latest predictions were released for this year’s hurricane season.
According to Click Orlando, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) had previously predicted about 13-20 major storms for this year’s hurricane season. Meanwhile, other reputable sources like Colorado State University previously gave a prediction of 17 storms.
However, given recent developments, Colorado State University has raised its prediction to 20 storms, with at least 4 of these storms predicted to be hurricanes.
A number of factors contributed to this change, including the lack of El Niño (a force that typically prevents further hurricanes), rising ocean temperatures, and the unexpected intensity of Tropical Storm Elsa.
If you’re heading to Orlando this year, don’t worry! Disney, Universal, and other companies in the area have taken every safety precaution possible and have a ton of policies in place in the case of a hurricane.
