Why Did the Upcoming Lord of the Rings Anime Feature Get Fast-Tracked?

According to VarietyNew Line Cinema has decided to fast-track production on the new anime feature, “The War of the Rohirrim”, that will tell us the story behind the ‘bloody saga’ at Helm’s deep (the fortress in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers).

With the new Amazon series on Lord of the Rings already under production, it looks like New Line Cinema is trying to up the timeline to align more closely with that series.

New Line Cinema will be partnering with Warner Bros. Animation for this feature, and it will not be connected to the Amazon series due to them taking place at completely different time periods.

The story line will follow the man with whom Helms Deep is named, Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan and will be will be directed by anime filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama (Netflix’s “Ultraman”). It will also have a screenplay by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”) and be produced by Joseph Chou (“Blade Runner: Black Lotus”).

The animation and casting for this feature is already happening and will continue to move forward so we can enjoy this new foray into the Lord of the Rings series even sooner.
