Is a Disney World Annual Pass Worth It Right Now?

There are always pros and cons to purchasing a Disney World Annual Pass, but what does that look like for 2021? As of this writing Disney World is not selling new Annual Passes, but there are many of you who may be coming up on your time to renew your Pass. Or perhaps you’re considering purchasing a Pass when Disney does decide to bring back new Pass purchases.

If Disney World started selling passes TOMORROW, is it worth it to purchase one? Let’s weigh those pros and cons!

Why a Disney World Annual Pass IS worth it right now.

Perhaps the biggest benefit to being a Disney World Annual Pass right now is that the parks are currently at limited capacity. Even if there are days where the parks look busy, overall wait times are still lower than average and move along quite well.

Granted, the parks are not as empty as they were, say, last summer, but there are still fewer people in the parks overall. If you live close to Disney World, it’s more likely that renewing your Annual Pass or hypothetically purchasing a new one right now is worth it.

Disney World’s Park Pass Reservation System also seems to be in favor of Annual Passholders, at least in the sense that there is more last-minute availability than there is for non-Passholders.

Finally, we don’t know when Disney World will decide to bring new Annual Passholder sales back. If you chose to cancel your Pass and don’t renew, you could be out of luck for a while when it comes to re-upping your Pass. In many circumstances, it may be better to hang onto your Pass just to know that you have it — again, especially if you live close to the theme parks and can visit more frequently.

Why a Disney World Annual Pass is NOT worth it right now.

Now let’s talk about why renewing your Annual Pass or purchasing a new Pass if Disney were to start selling them again would NOT be worth it right now.

In fact, there’s really only one reason why it wouldn’t be worth it, but it’s a pretty big reason. Right now, you would be paying quite a bit of money for much less in the parks.

There are still lots of things that continue to be closed in Disney World, including rides, Resorts, and restaurants. So your Annual Pass holds less “value” than it did prior to the park closures. There are still many other restrictions in place that you may decide for yourself isn’t worth having a Pass for at this time.

The fact that Disney has not changed the prices of Annual Passes may be frustrating for some. We’re all waiting to see when Disney decides to sell Passes again, and if/when that time comes, we’ll be sure to let you know about it!

  1. Annual passes are THE BEST THING EVER. Do you have any idea how many Disney guests are kicking themselves for not renewing last year? Millions. What is the alternative? Paying $130 per park per day? Not acceptable. Those who have annual passes right now are very grateful. As am I . Even though we only travel to Disney World two or three times a year, it is a mighty valuable thing to have. I only hope Disney keeps offering them. And many are already dreading discontinuation of Magical Express. Our family is. Magical Express is a beautiful thing. Luxury busses, professional drivers, getting to your resort in a timely safe manner. Can’t express enough what a loss this will be
