Amidst the current closure, AMC Theaters announced it would not reopen until just weeks before studios release new blockbusters.
As the closures have continued, AMC recently spoke out on their current financial status and how it could affect the future of the company as a whole.
The soonest Disney blockbuster, Mulan, is set to premiere on July 24th, but AMC fears that if a summer reopening is delayed, the company might not survive.
AMC claims to have enough funds available to reopen theaters later this summer, but if this reopening is postponed, the company may not be able to borrow extra funds to continue. In a recent regulatory filing, AMC stated, “Due to these factors, substantial doubt exists about our ability to continue as a going concern for a reasonable period of time.”
Other theater companies such as Cinemark claim to have enough cash to survive the rest of the year and are already planning to reopen U.S. theaters on June 19th.
