My Sports Pic of the Week is of the interior of the Team Mickey Athletic Club at Downtown Disney. This is a fun store for athletes. It’s loaded with Disney sports merchandise. I do have one complaint though, and I’m not one to complain about much at Walt Disney World. Why is it that the only clothing I can ever find in there for girls has to do with cheerleading? And none of the girl characters that decorate the store are wearing sports uniforms – only cheerleading outfits. What kind of message does this send to our little girls? Cheerleading is great but it’s not the only athletic thing girls participate in. I’d like to see girls represented more equally at this store. {Stepping down off my soapbox now”¦}

  1. I totally agree!! I was an athlete in my younger years and although cheerleader outfits are cute, I too would love to see more clothes (sport uniforms) for women! But I do love that store because my husband and son are both into golf and there is a great supply of golf merchandise. But I do have a question/suggestion…why is there no clothing or anything else for the sport of rugby?? It seems to me that sport is becoming more popular. I’m just saying…..

    Thanks for the post.

  2. I totally agree with you. My daughter has never found much in here for her. However, she once decorated her own pink baseball bat. She drew and said what she wanted on a piece of paper and they duplicated it exactly onto the bat. Pretty neat! (accept trying to get it into the suitcase, lol)

  3. I thought maybe your sport of choice is shopping!!

    By the way I totally agree about the cheerleading thing.

  4. I SOOO agree with you. When my girls were growing up, they were not allowed to be Cheerleaders…we made them go into sports…always told them they could cheer for the boys when the boys had a cheering squad for the girls sports. It never came to pass…
