The Other Tree of Life

Light Meter by Lisa K. Berton

Last month, my friend Karen and I made our way from Downtown Disney’s West Side thru Pleasure Island and into the Marketplace for some window shopping. Heading back to the car, we walked the sidewalk behind Pleasure Island, approaching West Side, when I saw what I thought was a balloon trapped in tree branches. As we got closer, I saw more of them. A tree filled with renegade balloons? That seemed rather strange. Then, one of them moved and a head appeared. Agggghhh! A flock of egrets were sleeping in the tree. I couldn’t stop laughing. Had you been there you would have been laughing as well…at me.

  1. When we were in Orlando this summer, we saw this at Animal Kingdom. As you came over the bridge when leaving the park, you could see white “blobs” all over in the tress. When we realized what they were, I tried to get a good picture of it. I could not get anything bright enough for it to turn out nice, but it was definitely a site to see.
