Review: Disneynature’s Born in China
Posted onDisneynature's newest film, "Born in China," features the breathtaking cinematography that the studio division is known for, but, sadly, the story itself feels forced. I had high hopes for the movie after seeing all the ads with the adorable panda bears, but it just isn't as engaging as other Disneynature movies.
Disney movie review: Moana takes audience on entertaining voyage
Posted onMy 12-year-old daughter had been anticipating this animated movie from Walt Disney Animation Studios since she heard about it more than a year ago. Not only does she like the Disney princesses but she also loves all things related to Hawaii. This seemed like the perfect marriage of her favorites.
But you don't have to have an interest in either, as in the case of my 14-year-old son, to thoroughly enjoy "Moana." That's because the story is engrossing and the animation breath-taking. Plus, much of the original music has been developed in collaboration with "Hamilton" composer and actor Lin-Manual Miranda.

Disney movie review: ‘Zootopia’
Posted onWith far too many movies these days, the trailers showcase the films' best moments. After you're enticed into the theater, though, the movie usually cannot live up to the hype. Not so with Walt Disney Animation Studios' 55th animated feature, "Zootopia." If you've seen the hilarious "Zootopia" trailer that features Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde and the slow-moving sloth employee at the DMV, you've seen just a slice of the comedy in store for you.
Disney movie review: ‘The Finest Hours’
Posted onWalt Disney Studios’ “The Finest Hours” delivers an exciting adventure appropriate for families that has enough action sequences to keep audiences on the edges of their seats. What it doesn’t give us, however, is another blockbuster about a tragedy at sea like James Cameron’s dramatically satisfying “Titanic,” and that’s largely due to the lack of … Continue reading "Disney movie review: ‘The Finest Hours’"

Movie review: Disney’s Cinderella and Frozen Fever
Posted onWarning: Limited spoilers ahead Disney’s live-action version of the fairytale classic “Cinderella” finally opens this weekend after much publicity and cross-promotion by the media giant. And it’s a charming retelling of the well-known story — one that keeps viewers’ attention, for the most part, and leaves us satisfied with the ending. Review of Planes: Fire and Rescue
Posted onPlanes: Fire and Rescue," which opens in theaters this weekend, helps resuscitate the "Cars"-inspired franchise of animated movies that started last year with "Planes."
The biggest difference is that the sequel has an original story line. Unlike "Planes," the movie does not position its lead character, Dusty Crophopper (voiced by Dane Cook), to again rehash the popular racing saga of Lightning McQueen. When my family saw that movie last year, most of us agreed it felt tired and predictable -- obviously, with good reason.
