First look at new Tinker Bell movie, ‘The Pirate Fairy’

Posted on
It looks as though the creators of the Disney Fairies franchise have found a way to draw more interest in the already-popular, direct-to-DVD movies, perhaps especially from the young boys in the family. The fifth installment is titled "The Pirate Fairy," and what boy doesn't like pirates? The latest movie featuring Tinker Bell and her friends is scheduled to be released on April 1, and Walt Disney Home Entertainment has been sharing more details recently.

US Route 192 — Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway

Jack discusses one of the major, non-Disney lodging areas in the Orlando area - or should I say, the Kissimmee/Saint Cloud area. US Route 192, also known as Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, runs from the middle of the state beginning at US Route 27 and ends one block from the Atlantic Ocean at State Road A1A. About 20 miles of this 75 mile thoroughfare are populated with a dizzying array of hotels, motels, timeshares, restaurants, souvenir shops, and attractions.

Where to watch the 2014 Super Bowl at Walt Disney World

Posted on
there are plenty of places to catch the game on television screens at Walt Disney World. Probably the first one that comes to mind for many folks is the ESPN Club on the Boardwalk because of its sports theme, 100 television screens, and traditional "game day" food. Consequently, the ESPN Club fills up early -- folks have been known to arrive hours early to secure a spot. The restaurant does take reservations, which many guests don't know, a cast member told me. So, call 407-WDW-DINE to check if there's a spot for you.

Photographing Inside the Be Our Guest Restaurant

Posted on
For a photographer, the dining rooms are not the best lighted. They are dark in keeping with the ambiance of a restaurant. Our eyes see fine but our cameras need a little help. For me, that meant using high a ISO to increase the sensitivity of my camera's sensor to pick up the dim light and the use of Rear-sync flash (sometimes called second curtain) where the flash is fired at the end of the exposure. This helps to gather background details which using regular flash would make almost completely dark.

How to use new FastPass+ system at Walt Disney World

Posted on
As of last week, all four Walt Disney World theme parks have converted to the FastPass+ system. Gone are paper FastPass tickets, and some other key changes are now in place. Here's what you need to know to cut your time spent waiting in line for attractions during your next visit to the parks. For annual passholders and those not staying on Disney property, collectively known as "day guests" -- we can only book our FastPasses in the park on the day of our visit. That is, until we receive MagicBands. Annual passholders have been told they will receive the RFID bands this year, but no promises have been made to other guests not staying at Disney hotels.

Jim’s Attic: Imagineer Marvin Davis, Master Planner of Walter Disney World

Posted on
Marvin Davis developed the first diagrammatic plan for Disneyland. On the morning of August 8, 1953, Walt reviewed the site map that Davis was working on and picked up a No. 1 carbon pencil and drew a triangle around the plot of land to indicate where he wanted his railroad to run. That historic drawing still exists today. For two years, Davis worked on more than 100 different versions of the master plan for Disneyland.
