UPDATE on the CLOSURE of a Downtown Disney Restaurant

Downtown Disney has been going through quite a lot of changes over the past few months. Don’t get us wrong, we’re totally here for it, but sometimes it can be hard to keep track of!

Two new snack stands just recently opened, new dining options have arrived on the menus, and back in June, it was announced that a popular restaurant would be closing soon. We’ll be saying goodbye to the current Earl of Sandwich soon, but as it turns out, it won’t be this weekend!

Back in June, Disney announced that the current Earl of Sandwich location would close to make way for Porto’s Bakery. Now, this appeared to always be the plan for this current location, but construction on Porto’s Bakery was delayed, so Earl of Sandwich stayed open longer than expected.

However, the Earl of Sandwich pop-up trailer on the west end of Downtown Disney will remain open throughout the closure, so you’ll still be able to get you fix while you’re waiting for the new Earl of Sandwich permanent location to be built, which will include a quick service counter, a sit-down Earl of Sandwich Tavern restaurant, and an upstairs cocktail bar.

Previously, it had been reported that Earl of Sandwich would start to lay off its 167 employees starting on July 28th and ending on August 10th, but now, it appears that the restaurant will remain open for the time being with no layoffs. According to Scott Gustin, Disney says construction timelines for Porto’s Bakery are still being finalized, with more details to come, so both current Earl of Sandwich locations will remain open for the time being.
