Disney has already REMOVED the virtual queue option from its latest attraction.

As part of the celebration of Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary on July 17th, 2025, the company opened the highly publicized Walt Disney – A Magical Life show in the park’s Main Street Opera House. The presentation, headlined by an animatronic of Walt himself, garnered significant press coverage and initially drew in large crowds. However, the years I’ve spent writing about Disney’s parks indicate to me that those crowds may not have been as large as Disney initially planned.
When Walt Disney – A Magical Life first opened, the attraction utilized Disney’s Virtual Queue system as opposed to a traditional standby queue. Guests with a Disneyland Park reservation could join a 7:00 AM virtual queue drop, while a later 12:00 PM drop was available for guests at both Disneyland and California Adventure.
Since guests were only able to enter the virtual queue once per day, this system limited the number of times guests could watch the show each day. However, by July 19th, the system had been dropped from the show, and it had moved to a standby queue option, seemingly confirming that Disney felt the crowd levels for the attraction didn’t merit the virtual system, and could be handled via a traditional line. Disney could bring back the virtual queue if demand were to dictate doing so.

According to Disney, A Magical Life begins with a “cinematic journey tracing Walt’s life from his early endeavors to the bright lights of Los Angeles and beyond” before culminating with a visit to Walt’s office where guests “encounter Walt like never before: watch as he shares heartfelt stories, anecdotes and words of wisdom through the magic of the Audio-Animatronics storytelling he helped pioneer.” The show is preceded by an exhibit of Walt artifacts, many of which are on loan from the Walt Disney Family Museum.

During the show’s “initial run,” it will be the only presentation in the Main Street Opera House. At an as-yet-unannounced date in the future, Disney has confirmed that Disneyland “will welcome back Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, which will play in rotation with Walt Disney – A Magical Life.”

Disney has DROPPED the virtual queue motion from Walt Disney – A Magical Life just days after the show made its debut. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Disney’s latest attractions.
