Listen, we’ve heard of some STRANGE things happening while people travel, okay?

We’re in Disney World every day with people who have traveled hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to be there and have maybe dealt with some travel stress along the way or are in unfamiliar environments. We’re no strangers to seeing people a little confused by the rules at the airport or in Disney World. Well, speaking of airport rules, we have one you need to know about: you cannot have a live animal anywhere in your clothing.
Now, listen carefully — we’re not saying you aren’t allowed to travel with animals because that is, in fact, allowed on many airlines as long as you have the proper documentation. We’re saying that if you were hoping to travel with an animal, they cannot be kept anywhere in your clothing.

Why bring this up? Well, according to TSA (Transportation Security Administration), this became a problem with a man flying out of Newark Liberty International Airport on March 7th. The man had to receive a pat-down at the security checkpoint when the body alarm was triggered. The TSA officer discovered there was indeed something being concealed in the man’s pants, and when he was asked what it was…he pulled out a turtle.

Yes. There was a turtle. In his pants. It was wrapped in a blue towel, and thankfully, the turtle did not appear to be hurt. The man informed agents that it was a red-ear slider turtle, and he was escorted out of the security checkpoint after missing his flight. TSA agents contacted the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and local animal control officials regarding the turtle, which the man did not officially own, to return it to a proper habitat.

So, while this rule might not be explicitly written on any signs at the airport, it is indeed not allowed. The animal will flag the TSA’s security system, will likely be subject to a pat-down, and may have a very similar experience.
