At Disney World — the changes never stop coming!

We seriously might need to get used to the phrase “Out with the old. In with the new” when it comes to the parks. There are a TON of closures that are scheduled to happen next year and beyond to make way for brand-new attractions. And you know what? Nobody is really even talking about it, so you know we had to!
As we were saying, we’ve got eight rides at Disney World that are going to be closing next year, and no one is really talking about them, so we thought we’d give you a quick rundown. That way, if you’re going to visit in 2025, you won’t be caught unaware.
Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat
Earlier this year at the big D23 convention, Disney shared that Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat would be permanently closing to make way for two new Cars attractions in Frontierland.

Those new attractions will be taking over the land that is currently home to Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat. The work will begin in 2025. No word as of yet on an exact date.
It’s Tough to Be a Bug
Now let’s hop on over to Animal Kingdom, where Disney had previously announced that It’s Tough to be a Bug! will eventually close to make way for the brand-new show Zootopia: Better Zogether!

No closing date has been announced yet, but we should be getting one soon since the new show is set to open in Winter 2025. Given that information, it’s probably safe to assume that this current attraction will be closing in either Spring or Summer 2025 at the latest.
TriceraTop Spin
I’m sure you previously heard that DinoLand U.S.A. would close to make way for the new Tropical-Americas-themed land, Pueblo Esperanza. As part of the new land, it will be getting three brand-new attractions by 2027. One of the attractions to be closed is TriceraTop Spin.

It will be closing permanently on January 13th, 2025. That means your last day to ride it will be January 12th, 2025.
DINOSAUR
The next attraction that will be closing in that same area is DINOSAUR.

While this one goes the way of the…dinosaur, it will be getting replaced with a brand-new Indiana Jones ride!

Disney has not yet announced an official closing date for DINOSAUR, but with construction on the land set to begin in January, we could see this one closing at some point in 2025, especially if they want to make their 2027 deadline.
Muppet*Vision 3D
This one is hot off the press and hurts real bad. Disney just confirmed that the location of the coming Monsters, Inc. land will be at the south side of Hollywood Studios, where Muppets Courtyard currently sits, which means that everything that is currently Muppets will have to go.

That means we’ll be seeing both PizzeRizzo and Muppet*Vision 3D be closed forever to make way for Monstropolis and the new attractions slated for the land. Now, we don’t have a lot of details about this one when it comes to construction timelines, but there is the possibility that the work could begin in 2025.
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster
In the same announcement, Disney shared that The Muppets will be “moving right along to Sunset Boulevard” and taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, “teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.”

This took everyone by surprise as we thought the previous announcement meant that there would no longer be a Muppets presence in the parks. As with the previous announcement, a timeline hasn’t been shared, but there is the possibility that the work could begin in 2025.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Lastly, Disney shared that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will close for refurbishment on January 6th, 2025. The website says the attraction will “reopen with a little bit of new magic in 2026,” meaning that it will be closed for nearly the entirety of 2025.

There’s been no official word if this closure is connected to the construction of the new Cars attractions coming to Frontierland, which will see the closure and replacement of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, or if it is completely unrelated.
